Evaluate an ecommerce template by following a shopping task from product discovery to a confirmed test outcome. Identify which parts belong to the template and which require a commerce service. A product card and cart icon do not establish a working store.

Use a provider-approved test environment for transaction checks. Do not use a live charge to find out whether a demonstration has a complete integration.

## Identify the system behind the page

Read the template's requirements. Determine whether it is a theme for a commerce platform, a storefront connected to an API, or a set of static pages.

Record the service that supplies products, prices, availability, carts, and orders. A static design may require integrations for every one of those responsibilities.

Ask what the download includes. Search, product filtering, variant selection, and checkout links may have different implementation states. Keep the answer with the candidate's [maintenance plan](/guides/website-template-maintenance-plan).

## Prepare a small product set

Use test products that expose different conditions. Include a simple product, a product with choices, and an unavailable product. Add a long name and an image with a different shape.

Keep the sample consistent across candidates. Use clearly identified example prices and records. They are review data, not evidence of a real offer.

Check whether the product page explains what the visitor selects. A choice such as size or finish must remain identifiable after the product enters the cart.

Read the [real content article](/blog/test-template-with-real-content) for other difficult samples.

## Follow discovery to the product page

Start from a category or search result. Open a product and return to the surrounding list. Confirm that the visitor can understand its place in the catalog.

Google's [ecommerce site structure guidance](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/specialty/ecommerce/help-google-understand-your-ecommerce-site-structure) explains how category and product links help it understand a store. A search field alone does not replace useful product navigation.

Check filtered lists with no matching result. Keep the selected conditions understandable and provide a useful way to change them.

## Inspect cart changes, not only the cart page

Add a test product with a specific option. Confirm that the cart identifies the same option. Change the quantity and remove the item.

Record what happens when availability changes. A page may show a product that the commerce service can no longer supply. The visitor needs an accurate result and a clear next step.

Check the cart after a failed request. The display should not claim that an action succeeded when the service rejected it. Find out where the owner can inspect the failure.

## Review the checkout boundary

Identify the system that accepts the order and handles payment. Record whether checkout stays on the website or opens the provider's page. Confirm that the template's instructions cover the integration.

Use the provider's current test procedure for successful, canceled, and failed checkout outcomes. The service's test mode and supported test methods determine how to perform those checks.

A browser success screen is only one observation. Confirm the corresponding test order in the authorized service record. Record who verifies the result.

Do not copy production credentials into public files or a demonstration repository. Use the service's documented integration and access process.

## Keep a comparison record

| Area | Sample condition | Evidence needed |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Product | Long name and different image shape | Complete readable details |
| Choices | Specific size or finish | Same choice in the cart |
| Availability | Unavailable test product | Accurate action state |
| Cart | Quantity change and removal | Correct service response |
| Checkout | Provider-approved test outcome | Matching authorized test record |
| Failure | Rejected request | Accurate message and recovery path |

These checks describe a review process. They do not certify a template or its payment security.

## Compare the work required after purchase

List missing integrations, required accounts, and ownership responsibilities. Include product updates and order support in that record. A store needs ongoing operational work after the pages launch.

Use the [licence guide](/guides/free-vs-paid-template-licences) for download and asset terms. Use the [mobile checklist](/guides/mobile-website-template-checklist) to repeat the shopping task on a phone.

Browse the [template directory](/templates) with the integration list beside you. Choose a candidate whose complete requirements fit the people and services that will operate the store.
